DURHAM, N.C., May 14, 2015 – Old Chatham Golf Club, the overall top ranked golf course and private golf club in North Carolina’s Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area, recently made an impressive addition to its professional shop that is catching the eye of members and their guests– the World Amateur Team Championship Eisenhower Trophy.

Australia was first to capture the trophy in 1958, and it has been in the hands of eleven different countries over the years. Thanks to the great play of the United States team the trophy now resides in the United States and will stay on display at Old Chatham for the next year. Old Chatham member and Past President of the USGA, Jim Hyler, was captain of the team.

The World Amateur Team Championship is a biennial competition for men and women conducted by the International Golf Federation (IGF), an organization of golf federations around the world, jointly run by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R&A) and the United States Golf Association (USGA). The men’s competition is played for the Eisenhower Trophy, named after golf enthusiast President Dwight Eisenhower.

The 2014 competition, held in Karuizawa, Japan, a 72-hole stroke play consisting of 72 three-person teams. The U.S. team included Beau Hossler, a sophomore at the University of Texas, Bryson DeChambeau, a junior at Southern Methodist University and Denny McCarthy, a senior at the University of Virginia. The U.S. won by two shots over Canada – its 15th victory in the competition – and set a scoring record.

QUOTES:

“It is an honor to have the 2014 World Amateur Team Championship Eisenhower Trophy on display at Old Chatham for all to see,” said Hyler. “This Trophy reflects excellence, and stands as a testament to the incredible talent being developed in the U.S. today.
