Durham, N.C., Feb. 12, 2015 – The North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (NCVMA) has announced that it has awarded one of its five High Five grants to the Coalition to Unchain Dogs located in Durham. The mission of the Coalition to Unchain Dogs is to improve the welfare of dogs living in under-served communities, as well as dogs continuously chained outdoors, by offering information and free services including wellness care, spay/neuter, vaccinations and fences. By providing nonjudgmental assistance and building relationships within the community, the Coalition to Unchain Dogs bolsters connections between dogs and their human companions.

The High Five Grant Program was established to assist qualified organizations that promote community service as well as compassion and health for the people and animals of North Carolina. NCVMA will award $5,000 to the Coalition to Unchain Dogs in 2015, and the organization will have the opportunity to reapply for the grant in 2016.
