Moore & Van Allen named a Lawyers Weekly Diversity & Inclusion Awards winner
Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) is pleased to announce that it has been named a 2019 Lawyers Weekly Diversity & Inclusion Awards winner. The firm was selected as an honoree for the inaugural awards by Lawyers Weekly’s internal panel of judges, based on contributions to the legal community in the area of diversity. The complete list of honorees was announced on November 11, and winners will be formally recognized at an awards luncheon on December 11.
One of MVA’s important missions is to foster a culture of diversity and inclusion both internally, within the firm, and externally, across the many communities the firm serves. MVA implements strategic practices designed to support and promote the recruitment, retention and promotion of minority and female attorneys and staff. MVA’s efforts are driven by the firm’s Diversity Committee, which is led by Financial Services Member Amy Johnson and White Collar, Regulatory Defense and Investigations Member Valecia McDowell, who also serves on the firm’s Management Committee. Established in 2000, the Diversity Committee’s purpose is to raise awareness and foster understanding and appreciation of all ethnicities, races, religions, countries and regions of origin, physical abilities, gender identities and sexual orientations. A comprehensive overview of the firm’s additional diversity efforts can be found in the most recent Annual Diversity Report.
“We are proud to accept this recognition from Lawyers Weekly,” Johnson said. “At MVA, we know that the best talent doesn’t look alike or have the same background or upbringing. We have come a long way, but need to continue improving. If we don’t have a diverse makeup, then we aren’t performing for our clients, and that’s why we’re here.”
