Kangaroo Express, the leading independently operated convenience store chain in the southeastern United States, operated by The Pantry, Inc. (Nasdaq: PTRY), today announced it will sponsor the Carolina Hurricanes’ 12th Annual Military Appreciation Day on Sunday, March 8. The Hurricanes will take on the Edmonton Oilers at 3 p.m. at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. The event is part of Kangaroo Express’ ongoing commitment to support members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.

The Hurricanes’ commitment to the military is a year-long effort through a wide range of initiatives and relationships, including dedicating an entire game to thank members of the armed forces for all that they do. As part of Military Appreciation Day, the Hurricanes will be hosting vehicles from each branch of the military on the South Plaza prior to the game. In addition, military bases and organizations will present displays on the concourse and there will be several in-game recognitions.

Military veterans, service members and their families, and representatives from the USO of North Carolina and the North Carolina National Guard will enjoy the game with complimentary tickets provided by Kangaroo Express.

“With more than half of our stores located within 25 miles of a military installation, our servicemen and women are a part of the fabric of Kangaroo Express,” said Gordon Schmidt, senior vice president of store operations and restaurants, Kangaroo Express. “Sponsoring the military appreciation day with the Hurricanes is another way for Kangaroo Express to say ‘thank you’ to our nation’s service members and give their families a day of fun and entertainment cheering the ‘Canes to victory.”

The appreciation game begins with a ceremonial puck drop by Sergeant Michael S. Roginski, a psychological operations specialist serving with Bravo Company, 8th Military Information Support Battalion, 4th Military Information Support Group. Sgt. Roginski holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from American Military University and has serviced the U.S. military for eight years, including service in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Kangaroo Express is a proud sponsor of military appreciation games throughout the Southeast, including games hosted by minor league baseball, college football and basketball teams.

Kangaroo Express is also committed to offering portable, transferable career opportunities to current and former service members and their spouses. Military hiring is incorporated into the company’s strategic planning, forging partnerships with job placement non-profits and government organizations that help qualified veterans transition into civilian careers, and proactively recruiting veterans and military spouses to strengthen the workforce.
