Community Blood Center of the Carolinas Plans Blood Drive to Benefit New ‘Playground for Zahra’ Project – Sept. 24
The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) and the Kiwanis Clubs in Catawba County are holding a blood drive to raise money for a new playground in honor of Zahra Baker.
The Kiwanis Clubs in Catawba County including the Kiwanis Clubs of Newton, Western Catawba and Hickory, and the Catawba County Golden K Club, are leading this project to raise money for the new playground, located at 805 6th Street, SE in Hickory. Eighty-five thousand dollars is needed to build the playground, so CBCC has been working with the Kiwanis Clubs in Catawba County over the past few months on plans to give the community the opportunity to help raise funds and save local lives through blood donation.
The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will donate $10 to the playground fund for every unit of blood donated at the blood drive taking place in the Heart Center Lobby at Frye Regional Medical Center located at 420 North Center Street in Hickory on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
“I believe we all can do more to support others in our communities,” said Martin Grable, President and CEO of Community Blood Center of the Carolinas. “By giving blood at this special blood drive, donors not only have the chance to support local patients battling cancer, cardiac disease and other life threatening illness, they also have the opportunity to build a playground for children in our community in honor of Zahra Baker.”
