CBCC to Honor Dads at Father’s Day Weekend Blood Drives
The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) will be honoring dads this Father’s Day weekend with whole blood and double red cell blood collection drives at its Hickory and Charlotte Centers.
The Father’s Day weekend blood collection days are part of CBCC’s “Difference-Maker Dads” campaign, whereby CBCC is celebrating Father’s Day throughout the month of June. One drive will be on Saturday, June 20 at the Hickory Center (2217 Highway 70 SE) from 7:30AM-5:00PM. The other will be on Sunday, June 21 at the Charlotte Center (4447 South Blvd.) from 7:30AM-5:00PM. To make an appointment for either of these drives or another mobile drive, call 704-972-4700 or visit www.cbcc.us/donate-blood.
As part of the campaign, CBCC is calling on donors to give blood in honor of their dad, with their dad or because they are a dad. CBCC is also honoring dads who donate Double Red Blood Cells. Through Double Red Blood Cell donation, individuals are allowed to donate twice as many red cells than in a whole blood donation. To be eligible to donate double red blood cells, a donor’s hemoglobin must be at least 13.3. In addition, men must be at least 5’1” and weigh more than 130 pounds, and women must be at least 5’5” and weigh more than 150 pounds.
“Donors who meet the requirements to give Double Red Blood Cell donation can make double the impact with a single donation,” said Kim Jones, Director Recruitment & Retention for Community Blood Center of the Carolinas. “We encourage the community to join our ‘Difference-Maker Dads’ by giving blood in honor of the dads in their lives to help save lives of our local patients.”
