APEX Officials and Community Members Celebrate Biodiesel Availability at Re-Opening Of Crown Express Mart
Crown Express Mart celebrates re-opening today as the newest location in the Triangle Area to offer B20, a renewable biodiesel blend that can be used in existing diesel engines without modification. The celebration will showcase the many benefits biodiesel has to offer consumers with the support of Apex officials, Mayor Keith H. Weatherly and Apex Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Graham Wilson, and alternative fuel experts Piedmont Biofuels Vice President Lyle Estill and at North Carolina Solar Center’s Clean Transportation Program Manager Anne Tazewell.
Biodiesel is the first advanced biofuel to be produced on a commercial scale with over 1 billion gallons of domestic biodiesel produced in each of the past two years. The alternative, renewable and biodegradable fuel derived from fats, oils and greases diversifies America’s fuel supply. Apex’s efforts to expand the transportation fuel sector promotes biodiesel’s ability to decrease dependence on foreign oil, lower fuel prices, create jobs and improve air quality in North Carolina.
“Biodiesel proves advanced biofuels are effective in diversifying North Carolina’s transportation industry; a fuel source that can help contribute to our future energy mix,” said Lyle Estill, Vice President of Piedmont Biofuels. Estill will be accompanied by a 2014 Chevy Cruz, a clean diesel vehicle, to demonstrate the benefits and compatibility of B20.
During the mid-day, one hour long event, Apex citizens will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore the benefits of biodiesel and diversified fuel programs, reap the benefits of a celebratory price cut on B20 and enjoy a free scoop of Breyer’s ice cream to keep cool.
The B20 fueling station helps The Triangle boast more biodiesel pumps than anywhere else in the state with three in Raleigh, two in Durham and Apex as the latest addition. Crown Express Mart is proud to join the ranks of fueling stations offering alternative energy options in an effort to keep costs down and improve air quality for the Apex Community.
