MedPro Rx President Nancy McFarlane Named Top Entrepreneur For 2013 By Business Leader Magazine
RALEIGH, N.C. – MedPro Rx, Inc. ( http://www.medprorx.com ), a provider of specialty pharmacy services to clients with chronic illnesses who need clotting factor, IVIg and other medication, has announced that President Nancy McFarlane was named one of Business Leader Magazine’s Top Entrepreneurs in the Triangle region for 2013. McFarlane was honored at an awards ceremony held on April 25 at Brier Creek Country Club.
As president of MedPro Rx, McFarlane has led the pharmacy to multimillion dollar sales revenues over the past 11 years. She implemented a vision to create a pharmacy that would coordinate pharmaceutical care with existing community resources as well as serve as an advocate for the bleeding disorder community. McFarlane has received the Distinguished Pharmacy Alumni Award from Virginia Commonwealth University, her alma mater, for her contributions to the profession of pharmacy and serves on the UNC Pharmacy Foundation Board.
MedPro Rx has several community outreach programs, including its “Education is Power” scholarship program. To date, the pharmacy has awarded nearly $300,000 in scholarship funds to students nationwide who are living with bleeding disorders. MedPro Rx also supports several other organizations dedicated to helping people living with chronic illnesses, including the Hemophilia Foundation of North Carolina, the Virginia Hemophilia Foundation, Patient Services, Inc. (PSI), the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, the Neuropathy Association and other nonprofits throughout the region. Recently, MedPro Rx has received accreditation for Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based health care accrediting organization, and by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, Inc., (ACHC) in the areas of Infusion Pharmacy Services, Infusion Nursing Services and Specialty Pharmacy Services. Receiving these accreditations shows MedPro Rx’s strong commitment and dedication to the healthcare industry.
McFarlane was elected mayor of Raleigh in December 2011 after serving on the Raleigh City Council since 2007 and is leading the city's efforts to secure the Dorothea Dix property as a destination park for Raleigh and the state. She serves as a liaison to the following organizations: Wake County Elected Officials Transit Work Group, Raleigh Arts Commission and United Arts Council, Upper Neuse Rivers Basin Association, Environmental Advisory Board, North Carolina Conservation Council, Substance Abuse Advisory Council, Sierra Club, Storm Water Utility Transition Advisory Commission, Triangle J Council of Governments, Water Advisory Committee, Sister Cities and Wake County Schools. McFarlane is the head of the North Carolina Metropolitan Mayors Coalition, a nonpartisan organization that is focused on issues of special interest to the state’s large cities, especially in the fields of creating jobs, protecting local revenues, investing in public infrastructure and keeping cities safe. Additionally, she is a member of the Wake County Mayors Association, the Women’s Forum of NC and the Women on Board Steering Committee.
