Critical Blood Shortage Due to Winter Storm

Bookmark and Share Charlotte, NC - February 19, 2015 -

Due to the winter storm, the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) is currently facing a critical blood shortage.

“The current winter storm has significantly impacted blood donation over the last two days and threatens the balance of the week. CBCC supplies more than 400 blood products a day to local hospitals and the patient community. If you are a blood or platelet donor and eligible to donate, we need your help now and over the next several days”, said Martin Grable, president and CEO of the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas. “Just as our Emergency Service teams are called into action during storms, local patients are calling our region’s blood donors into action to give life-saving blood.”

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas is asking all healthy donors to donate blood today or anytime this week at one of its donation centers in Charlotte, Concord, Gastonia, Greensboro, or Hickory or at a mobile drive. CBCC’s Charlotte and Hickory centers are open today on a modified schedule, and center hours have been expanded later in the week in order to meet this need.

Appointments can be made online or by calling 704-972-4700.
