The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) announced today that it has donated 4,326 school supplies to schools in 19 counties around the region. The donation was the culmination of CBCC’s month-long ‘Pints for Pencils’ campaign, whereby CBCC pledged to make a contribution in school supplies for every pint of blood donated.

“We are thrilled with the success of this year’s ‘Pints for Pencils’ campaign, which is just one of the many ways we can help impact the lives of both local students and patients,” said Martin Grable, president and CEO of CBCC. “We appreciate everyone who donated blood and the organizations and schools that hosted blood drives during ‘Pints for Pencils.’ Together, we helped save local lives while supporting students and teachers in the school systems of areas we serve.”

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas is committed to supporting students – who make up over 20 percent of its donor base – through initiatives such as ‘Pints for Pencils’ and through scholarship and grant programs. Since 2009, CBCC has awarded more than $128,500 in scholarships and grants to local students and schools. For more information, contact Kim Jones at 704-972-4727 or at KLJones@cbcc.us.
